History and specifications[]
This ship was commissioned on reference stardate 2/2006. (FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)
This vessel succeeded a number of vessels named for Benjamin Franklin, a statesman of Earth history, and various other persons and places that shared that name. Prior to this ship, the Clarke-class USS Benjamin Franklin had borne the name. (TOS - The Tabukan Syndrome comic: "Battle Stations!")
The Franklin was refit to the mk IV Enterprise-class specifications on stardate 2/3406 and eventually scrapped on stardate 2/5511. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)
This vessel was succeeded in name by the Defiant-class USS Franklin by the year 2378. (ST video game: Starfleet Command III)
