The USS Gandhi (NCC-26632) was an Ambassador-class Federation starship in service in the 24th century. (Reference book: Star Trek Encyclopedia)
The Gandhi was launched in 2324, and amongst the officers to serve aboard during the shakedown cruise was Lieutenant (j.g.) Rachel Garrett, as tactical officer. (ST computer game: Starship Creator; TLE short story: "Hour of Fire")
While performing relief work with Bajoran refugees in 2332, the Gandhi's commanding officer was killed while attempting to negotiate an exchange of hostages with the Cardassians. Fortunately, Lieutenant Commander Garrett took charge of the situation and prevented any more unnecessary bloodshed. (ST game: Starship Creator) [1]
In 2364, Cadet Jayme Miranda's mother was assigned to the vessel. She still served aboard in 2370, as Miranda had a conversation with her. (TNG novel: The Best and the Brightest)
In 2369, the Gandhi was assigned to perform a terraforming mission in the Legana sector. In this year, Lieutenant Thomas Riker was assigned to the Gandhi following his recovery from Nervala IV. (TNG episode: "Second Chances")
By 2371, the Gandhi, under the command of Captain Azon Lexen, had completed its terraforming mission and was assigned to a patrol of the Demilitarized Zone. In this year, Lexen ordered Riker to deliver medical supplies via shuttlecraft to Outpost Sierra III. However, Riker and the supplies were captured by the Maquis to help combat a new outbreak of the Double Helix virus. Following the development of a cure, Riker decided to remain with the Maquis. (TNG novel: Quarantine; DS9 episode: "Defiant") [2]
Notes
- ↑ Discrepancy note: This account is at odds with Hour of Fire and several other sources, which have Garrett serving as commanding officer of the USS Enterprise-C by 2332.
- ↑ Discrepancy note: In the TNG novel, Quarantine, the Gandhi is described as being a Galaxy-class vessel.
