For other uses, see USS Ganges.

The USS Ganges (NCC-72454) was a Danube-class runabout in service to Starfleet in the late 24th century. In 2369, the Ganges was one of three runabouts that were delivered to Deep Space 9 by the USS Enterprise-D. (ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia; DS9 episode: "Emissary")

History[]

In 2369, the Ganges was equipped with a mission module and used by Commander Benjamin Sisko and Chief Miles O'Brien for the aid of capturing Bajoran terrorist, Tahna Los. (DS9 episode: "Past Prologue")

Later that year, Lieutenant Jadzia Dax took the Ganges into the Gamma Quadrant on a routine survey mission. During the mission, the Ganges picked up a Human archaeologist named Vash, who claimed to have been in the Gamma Quadrant for two years. En route back to DS9, the Ganges suffered a mysterious power loss, though the Ganges was tractored back to DS9 safely. (DS9 episode: "Q-Less")

Vortex

Ganges enters the Chamra Vortex.

The Ganges was also used by Odo to ferry a fugitive, Croden, back to his homeworld in the Gamma Quadrant, after he murdered a Miradorn twin. After persuading Odo to take the Ganges into the Chamra Vortex to rescue his daughter from stasis, the Ganges was attacked by a Ma-Karn-class raider which was commanded by the murdered Miradorn' twin, Ah-Kel. Thankfully, the Ganges was able to escape by igniting the dangerous toh-maire gas located in the Vortex. (DS9 episode: "Vortex")

In early 2370, the Ganges was the last runabout to leave Deep Space 9 during the brief Alliance for Global Unity coup d'etat against the Bajoran government. The Ganges was due to travel to the Korat system with family members of Starfleet personnel aboard, including Jake Sisko. (DS9 episode: "The Siege")

Later that year, Chief O'Brien and Doctor Julian Bashir used the Ganges to travel to T'Lani III and aid the T'Lani and the Kellerun's destroy their stock of the deadly "Harvester" bio-weapons. The Ganges was later destroyed by a T'Lani cruiser. (DS9 episode: "Armageddon Game")
