The USS Georgiou (NCC-21300) was a Federation starship, the Georgiou-class light exploration cruiser prototype in Starfleet service in the 23rd century. It was named after Starfleet captain Philippa Georgiou. (STO - Mirror of Discovery short story: "Jayce's Interstellar: Around the Galaxy")

History

The Georgiou was conceived as the lead ship of a class of experimental battlecruisers. A small number of these battlecruisers were built during a time of escalating tensions with the Klingon Empire during the pre-Khitomer I era. It was the counterpart of the Excelsior-class, as Starfleet Command expressed competing design philosophies of smaller ships with concentrated firepower versus large multi-mission explorer cruisers.

With the Excelsior-class prevailing and the implementation of fleet composition limitations in the Khitomer Accords of 2293, the Georgiou and its sister ships were refitted and re-classified as light exploration cruiser. This included gutting heavy weapon systems. Thanks to its experimental engines, the Georgiou remained a platform for both rapid response, and long-range exploration.

The records of USS Georgiou's final mission, which occured in 2293, remained classified into 2410. During the mission, the Georgiou was presumed destroyed.

Following the end of the Tzenkethi Crusade in 2410, the IKS Amar towed the Georgiou to Drozana Station as a gift to representatives of the Advanced Starship Design Bureau aboard the USS Scott. The long-lost vessel was turned over to the Scott, which towed it back home.
