The USS Hannibal (NCC-512) was a Federation starship, a Mk VIII Saladin-class class I destroyer in Starfleet service in the 2260s decade. (TOS reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual, VAN novel: Open Secrets)

History[]

The construction of the Saladin-class Hannibal was authorised for construction on stardate stardate 0965, in the 23rd century. Starfleet decided the Hannibal should be a Mk VIII version of the Saladin class, a class I starship and a destroyer. (TOS reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual)

Around 2262, the Hannibal was assigned to missions by Federation Border Patrol, operating out of Starbase 24. Its commanding officer was Captain Jaulas nd'Omdeshef. In that year, the Hannibal was part of Captain Robert Wesley's patrol task force.

Following a multi-pronged attack by the Klingon Empire, the Hannibal joined the USS Sacagawea at Shinohara's World, the fourth planet of UFC 620, too late to prevent the colony's pillaging and the death of 34 people at the hands of Klingons.

In an after-action discussion between Wesley of the USS Beowulf and James T. Kirk of the Sacagawea, Bob Wesley determined the Hannibal and the USS Sau Lan Wu would have been unable to stop the Klingons' gambit.

In the time following, the Hannibal's second officer Nijen Danehl engaged in a amiable yet casual dalliance with Captain Kirk during trips to Starbase 24. (TOS novel: The Captain's Oath)

In 2266, the Hannibal was assigned to the Taurus Reach to defend Starbase 47. (VAN novel: Open Secrets)

By 2279, Captain nd'Omdeshef had moved on to command the larger Soyuz-class USS Palmares. (TOS novel: The Higher Frontier)
