The USS Helios was a 25th century Federation starship, the Helios-class Dyson science destroyer prototype in Starfleet service from the 2400s decade. History and specifications[]
Starfleet's first Dyson science destroyer was the USS Dyson, launched in the year 2409 from the Solanae Dyson Sphere. Its first combat operation against Voth and Undine, which extended into the Jenolan Dyson Sphere, was a success. (STO - Solanae Dyson Sphere mission: "A Step Between Stars")
As a result of the Undine attack and an increased threat of an invasion through the two Dyson spheres, engineers of the Dyson Joint Command member states conceived of additional Solanae hybrid technologies, and delivered nine more, specialised Dyson science destroyer classes based on the successful prototypes. The Starfleet Corps of Engineers launched the USS Helios, USS Montgomery and USS Omega. The Helios was the first ship of its class and specialized in surveillance. It was equipped with a shield inversion projector. It enabled the ship to fire a tachyon beam that could temporarily disable the deflector shield of an opponent.
