The USS Hornet (NCC-1714 or NCC-1778) was a Federation starship, a Constitution-class heavy cruiser in service in the 23rd century.
- FASA supplements give the registry as NCC-1778, while most other sources use the earlier and more commonly accepted NCC-1714.
History and specifications[]
In the year 2270, the Hornet, under the command of Captain Leedson, was sent to meet with the USS Pompeii and the USS Enterprise to retake the stolen USS Star Empire. The Hornet was damaged in the battle, especially when the Enterprise switched sides. The Hornet surrendered after the Pompeii was destroyed. (TOS - Fortunes of War novel: Dreadnought!)
By the 2280s decade, Hornet was refit, outfitted to the specifications of an Enterprise-subclass vessel, specifically as a rear-fire heavy cruiser. (ST video game: Starfleet Command)
In 2283, the Hornet and the Miranda-class USS Invicta located hull and engine components of the USS Menke which had gone missing in 2272. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update)
