The USS Hoyle (NCC-3928) was a Ptolemy-class Federation starship in service in the 23rd century. (ST reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual)

Service history and disposition[]

In the mid-2260s, the Hoyle was under the command of Commodore Shirley "the Cat" Spencer. In 2267, the Hoyle was the first starship to detect the ancient Earth colony ship, Stephen Hawking. Because no standing orders allowed the Hoyle to make contact with the ship, Spencer contacted Starfleet and they dispatched the USS Enterprise to investigate. (TOS novel: Across the Universe)
