The USS Indefatigable was a Federation starship active in the late 24th century. It was wrecked in battle with the Jem'Hadar during the Dominion War.

Service history[]

In late 2374, the Indefatigable had been on a mission of mercy on the outskirts of the Dominion war zone when it was surrounded by a dozen Jem'Hadar warships. Counselor T'Lana had advised Captain Karina Wozniak that her impression of the Jem'Hadar was that they could not be negotiated with, but her captain was not even given the chance to make the attempt. The massive, three-tiered enemy warships had opened fire after their Jem'Hadar commander sent a short communication of his intent to destroy the Indefatigable. The first enemy salvo demolished the bridge and fatally wounded or outright killed most of the bridge crew, including Captain Wozniak. Counselor T'Lana escaped the bridge and rescued three crewmembers, taking one of only two functional shuttles. The counselor's last view of the Indefatigable was as a scorched and lifeless wreck as the massive Jem'Hadar warships moved off. (TNG novel: Resistance)

Since the enemy warships were described as "massive" and "three-tiered, evoking bugs with head, body, wings", it is likely that they were Jem'Hadar battle cruisers. The "dozen warships" seems to be overkill for a single Federation starship, so perhaps there were only a few battle cruisers and the rest were fighters.

T'Lana came to believe that the Indefatigable's destruction resulted partially from the bad advice she'd given to her captain and indirectly from Lieutenant Commander Worf's dereliction of duty on the planet Soukara earlier the same year, which she learned of from her subsequent time working for Starfleet Intelligence as a diplomatic liaison to the Romulans. (TNG novel: Greater Than the Sum, TNG novel: Resistance)
