The USS Kerala (NCC-2255) was a 23rd century Federation starship, the tier 6-rated Kerala-class temporal battlecruiser prototype in Starfleet service from the 2270s to the 2410s decade. (STO website: Unveiled: The 15th Anniversary Starship Bundle)

The USS Kerala was an evolution of the 2250s-era Shepard-class hull and entered service after the V'Ger incident in 2273[3]. As a temporal battlecruiser, the Kerala class combined the characteristics of a timeship with that of a battlecruiser. The Kerala was the first ship equipped with the broadside combat module. This device directed wide-arc phaser fire at nearby opponents in combat. It was inspired by the hardships experienced by the Shepard-class USS Kerala (NCC-1255) during the Battle of the Binary Stars in 2256. (STO website: Unveiled: The 15th Anniversary Starship Bundle)

From 2411 onwards, the Kerala represented its class on the shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Khitomer Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. Flag officers of the Alliance could deploy the Kerala alongside other spacecraft for assignments across the galaxy's quadrants as part of Operation: Delta Rising's four-quadrant strategy. (STO - New Dawn mission: "Admiralty System")
