History and specifications[]
The Kyushu was among the first New Orleans-class starships launched in the 24th century. In 2327, Ensign Marta Batanides shipped out with the Kyushu from Starbase Earhart. (ST reference: The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard)
In 2363 (stardate 40402), the crew of the Kyushu were almost trapped in a temporal Möbius loop after an ancient artifact excavated from Vemlar IV enabled them to communicate with their near-future selves. The crew learned to stop second-guessing themselves, thereby breaking the loop. The artifact was later secured by the Department of Temporal Investigations and safely stored in the Eridian Vault on Eris. (TNG novel: The Buried Age)
In 2367, the Kyushu participated in the Battle of Wolf 359. It was destroyed, along with 38 other starships. (TNG episode: "The Best of Both Worlds")
The Kyushu had been deployed by Admiral J.P. Hanson, along with the USS Gage and the USS Melbourne, against the Borg. The Kyushu was destroyed before the USS Saratoga. (DS9 novelization: Emissary, DS9 comic: "Program 359")
