History[]

Following the ravages of the Iconian War in the year 2410, the Khitomer Alliance tasked the Advanced Starship Design Bureau to replace the spacecraft losses suffered by Alliance fleets. (STO Collection Issue 05: "USS Buran")

Starfleet and the Klingon Defense Force cooperated in the development of new tier 6 destroyers based on the New Orleans-class frigate of the 24th century and the Klingon raptor escorts of the 25th century. The USS Lafayette represented the Federation's Lafayette class. Its KDF counterpart was the Ketha-class recon raptor IKS Ketha. Along with the retrofitted New Orleans class, the recon destroyers were the first ships equipped with the hyper-focusing trinary array. The hull of the Lafayette consisted of Andromeda-class components in a New Orleans-class configuration. The exploration cruiser USS Andromeda had been launched in 2409 and proven successful. (STO Collection Issue 03: "USS Andromeda")

Flag officers of the Khitomer Alliance could deploy the Lafayette alongside other spacecraft for assignments across the galaxy's quadrants as part of Operation: Delta Rising's four-quadrant strategy. (STO - New Dawn mission: "Admiralty System")

From 2410 onwards, the Lafayette represented its class on the shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. During an incursion by the Borg Kingdom from the mirror universe in 2411, the Lafayette was one of four evacuation ships carrying civilians and non-critical personnel away from the Borg attacking Starbase 1. (STO - Incursion mission: "Resistance of Starbase One")
