The USS Lalo (NCC-43837) was a Mediterranean-class freighter starship in service to Starfleet during the 24th century.
Service history and disposition[]
In 2364, Lalo experienced a temporal anomaly caused by the experiments of Doctor Paul Manheim. The freighter's captain contacted the USS Enterprise-D, saying it was like a "hiccup" in time. (TNG episode: "We'll Always Have Paris")
In 2366, 14-year-old student Max Thomssen discovered a design flaw in the Mediterranean-class while he and his father were building a skeletal model of Lalo in their quarters. His father passed that information along to Chief Engineer P'uruss. (TNG - Star Trek: Explorer short story: "The Expert")
In late 2366, the Lalo was attacked and presumed destroyed by a Borg cube three hours after leaving Zeta Alpha II en route to Sentinel Minor IV. It was the first Federation starship casualty of the Borg Incursion of 2366-2367. (TNG episode: "The Best of Both Worlds", Last Unicorn RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Core Game Book)
The freighter got off a few phaser shots before being immobilized by a Borg tractor beam. The ship, its crew, and civilian residents were assimilated within 30 minutes. (TNG - Star Trek: Explorer short story: "The Expert")
