The USS Leyte Gulf (NCC-71427) was an Akira-class Federation starship in service in 2377 when it became one of the first victims of the Warden Crisis.
History[]
In 2377, the Leyte Gulf rendezvoused with a pair of Klingon scientists who had been studying a newly discovered alien contagion. The contagion was in fact the Warden's nanite virus and soon spread to infect the entire crew who subsequently claimed the Leyte Gulf in the name of the Wardens and planned to take it to the Warden/Romulan outpost on Chetzia III.
The Leyte Gulf was discovered some time later adrift with hull damage in the Omical sector by the USS Incursion who had been pursuing the Klingon scientists and their mysterious contagion. When an away team shuttled on board they were promptly attacked by the Warden crew and Captain Jurai closed the emergency plasma vents in an attempt to destroy the Leyte Gulf and prevent the Incursions crew discovering the Wardens plans by causing an warp core breach. Fortunately Ensign Slovaak was amongst the Incursions away team and way able to perform a mind meld on Captain Jurai, the team then managed to open the emergency vent before the Leyte Gulf was destroyed.
The ultimate fate of the Leyte Gulf or its crew is unknown; however, the crew were presumably cured of the Warden nanites along with the rest of the galaxy and the Leyte Gulf herself was perfectly salvageable. (TNG video game: Away Team)
