The USS Marathon (NCC-4310) was a Larson-class Federation destroyer starship in the 23rd century, named for the site from Earth's history, entering Starfleet service on reference stardate 1/8810. The Marathon was refit to the mark II specifications on stardate 1/9909, and again to the mark VI design on 2/1104. (RPG reference book: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)

In the 2270s, Marathon was one of over a half-dozen Starfleet vessels, under the command of Commodore Jono Danilov, that intervened in a Romulan conflict that Captain James T. Kirk's USS Enterprise had become involved in, the Battle of Augo. Marathon, along with, al-Burak, Speedwell, Lake Ponchartrain, Lake Onondoga, Kilimanjaro, San Diego, Dauntless all departed shortly after the engagement, with the only loss being Danilov's Ortisei.
