The USS Maryam Mirzakhani was a 31st century Federation starship, a science vessel in Starfleet service in the 3060s decade. According to its dedication plaque, it was named for the first Human woman to win the Fields Medal, Maryam Mirzakhani.

Service history and disposition[]

The Maryam Mirzakhani was launched as a Federation science vessel from the New Utopia Planitia Shipyards. A dedication plaque was installed on the Mirzakhani's bridge.

At some point around 3069[1], the Maryam Mirzakhani fell victim to the Burn, a galaxy-wide cataclysm.

In the following years, the wrecked vessel was among the debris carried to Necropolis, a ring of wrecked ships dumped around a planet within the Milky Way Galaxy

Commander Michael Burnham.

In 3188, the couriers Cleveland Booker and Michael Burnham - herself a time-displaced Starfleet officer - visited the Necropolis to acquire a ship for Burnham. Book's friend Brodie directed them to a section containing the Maryam Mirzakhani. Burnham, clad in an EV suit, was reminded of the loss of the Federation when she visited the science vessel's bridge, and removed the dedication plaque as a keepsake.

Burnham later recovered additional Starfleet dedication plaques, and a Nirvana-class flyer as her personal ship. She made her first income as courier by selling dedication plaques and other memorabilia to Starfleet reenactors at a mercantile exchange but she kept the Mirzakhani's plaque.

During her time as courier, Burnham kept the plaque aboard her ship, the Alice. (DSC novel: Wonderlands)
