The USS Mercutio (NCC-4482) was a Federation Intrepid-class cruiser starship in service to Starfleet in the late 24th century.

Service history and disposition[]

The Mercutio was built at the Antares Ship Yards and entered active service during the 2370s decade.

By the year 2379, the Mercutio was under the command of Captain Kaufman. In this year, the Mercutio "went rogue" after being attacked by other Federation starships. However, the Mercutio was finally stood down after the COs of one of the vessels she was attacking was able to talk reason into Kaufman. (ST video game: Starfleet Command III)

No definitive final fate has been established for that ship as it was not seen after the Federation campaign in Starfleet Command III.

Background[]

Strategy[]

Since she is the boss of the first storyline mission of the Federation campaign of Starfleet Command III, the Mercutio is the player's first stepping stone towards the resolution of the Unity One crisis. This task is made challenging by the fact that the player, in a frigate or in a destroyer (depending on the difficulty level) is outgunned, has weaker shields and hull than the boss. The Mercutio begins battle while her hull points are below 60%. The best you could hope for is to have the Mercutio tractored and continually fire at one of her four shields, preferrably the port or starboard shields so that you don't have to face torpedo fire. This way, you can get to the point where Kaufman surrenders without sustaining too many hits, which is where the Mercutio hull points are at about 30%.
