The USS Merrimackwas a 24th century Federation starship, a Defiant-class escort/destroyer in Starfleet service by the 2370s and 2380s decades. (ST video game: Armada, ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night)
Service history and disposition
This Merrimack served alongside the Nebula-class USS Merrimack (NCC-61827), active by the year 2362, and remaining in service into the 25th century. (Decipher RPG module: Starships, The Official Starships Collection Issue STO 14: "USS Shran")
The Merrimack was named after the ironclad warship USS Merrimack, which had served as the CSS Virginia until it was captured by the United States of America during the American Civil War in the 1860s. (ST reference: Encyclopedia, 4th ed.)
- The ship may be named for numerous vessels and places from history named "Merrimack" or "Merrimac".
- No specific history or definitive final fate was established for this vessel as its name was selected for a destroyer by the Armada I and II game developers, and is sometimes placed randomly when the ship appears.
Six months later, 2377, Starfleet suffered an attack by Gul Kentar's insurrectionist forces in the Pearl Nebula, and defended the galaxy during both the Borg Invasion of 2377 and a Species 8472 incursion. The Merrimack was one of the ships involved in combat. (ST video game: Armada II)
During the invasion of the Borg Collective in February 2381, it was part of a task force to defend Starbase 24 along with the USS Sparta and USS Ulysses. A previously undetected Borg cube slipped through perimeter defenses and attacked the task force, destroying all three vessels and the starbase. (ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night)
