The USS Merrimack[1]was a 24th century[1] Federation starship, a Defiant-class[1] escort[2]/destroyer[1] in Starfleet service by the 2370s[1] and 2380s[3] decades. (ST video game: Armada, ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night)

Service history and disposition[]

Development[]

This Merrimack served alongside the Nebula-class USS Merrimack (NCC-61827), active by the year 2362[4], and remaining in service into the 25th century[5]. (Decipher RPG module: Starships, The Official Starships Collection Issue STO 14: "USS Shran")

The Merrimack was named after the ironclad warship USS Merrimack, which had served as the CSS Virginia until it was captured by the United States of America during the American Civil War in the 1860s. (ST reference: Encyclopedia, 4th ed.)

The ship may be named for numerous vessels and places from history named "Merrimack" or "Merrimac".

This ship was in active service around the 2370s decade, and was one of a number of vessels bearing this name. (ST video games: Armada, Armada II)

No specific history or definitive final fate was established for this vessel as its name was selected for a destroyer by the Armada I and II game developers, and is sometimes placed randomly when the ship appears.

Borg engagements[]

The Defiant-class destroyer Merrimack had entered service by the year 2376. The ship was involved in repelling the Borg Invasion of 2376. (ST video game: Armada)

When Locutus led a Borg fleet into the Sol star system, Starfleet deployed all available destroyers against the Borg Collective to defend Earth. (ST video game: Armada mission: "A Line in the Sand")

Six months later, 2377, Starfleet suffered an attack by Gul Kentar's insurrectionist forces in the Pearl Nebula, and defended the galaxy during both the Borg Invasion of 2377 and a Species 8472 incursion. The Merrimack was one of the ships involved in combat. (ST video game: Armada II)

In 2379, the Merrimack was available for a training simulation at Starfleet Academy by Carey. (ST video game: Armada mission: "Tutorial: Combat")

During the invasion of the Borg Collective in February 2381, it was part of a task force to defend Starbase 24 along with the USS Sparta and USS Ulysses. A previously undetected Borg cube slipped through perimeter defenses and attacked the task force, destroying all three vessels and the starbase. (ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night)
