[[WizKids]] originally planned to release the {{uSS|da Vinci}}, but encountered licensing issues. The name was changed to ''USS Montgolfier'' prior to release. Likely this was named for the Montgolfier brothers, who invented the Montgolfière-style hot air ballon which achieved the first manned ascent. The information card included with the figure indicates the ships' registry to be NCC-40109 but the ship miniature itself boasts the registry NCC-94943.
