The USS New Orleans was a Federation starship, the prototype New Orleans-class frigate vessel that was in service to Starfleet in the 24th century. This ship was named for New Orleans, a Human city from the history of Earth's United States of America nation. (ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia)

J.P. Hanson assumed command of the starship in 2323. (TNG novel: The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard)

The Decipher RPG module: The Price of Freedom states that construction of the New Orleans was completed in the year 2332.

By 2333, the New Orleans was commanded by Captain DeMontreville. Also serving aboard at this time was Bolian second officer, Errigo Shalay. (STA novel: Progenitor)
