The USS New York was a Nebula-class Federation starship in Starfleet service in the 2370s and the 2380s.

Service history and disposition[]

2372[]

In 2372, following the start of the Klingon-Cardassian War, the New York escorted aid convoys to Bajor after the Ferengi Alliance blockaded the planet. Admiral Charlie Whatley later ordered the cargo ships to return home, while ordering the New York to proceed to Deep Space 9 and help in the evacuation of the station. The New York was then to travel to Starbase Icarus with the Starfleet crew not assigned to the USS Defiant and the Federation civilians who lived on Deep Space 9. (DS9 episode & novelization: The Way of the Warrior; DS9 novel: The 34th Rule)

2381[]

In 2381, Benjamin Sisko assumed command of the New York during the Borg invasion of the Federation in order to protect the planet Alonis alongside the USS Cutlass and the USS James T. Kirk. The New York had taken massive damage in previous engagements and the majority of her crew had been recently replaced by inexperienced young officers and recent transfers from other postings. The New York and her support vessels were forced into combat against a fleet of six Borg cubes. While the Federation force had been able to destroy four of the enemy vessels, the Borg were able to disable both the New York and the James T. Kirk and destroy the Cutlass. Alonis was only saved by the intervention of Erika Hernandez and the Caeliar. Nineteen people died aboard the New York during the battle and 11,000 on Alonis. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Rough Beasts of Empire)

Later service[]

By late 2385, the New York was placed under the command of Captain Wright. In December of that year, the New York was contacted by Deep Space 9 to provide potential defense for the station against the Jem'Hadar-Ascendant Link, which the Defiant was sent to attempt to retrieve. Unfortunately, the ship couldn’t divert from its time-sensitive mission of mercy to the Federation colony of Cassiterides, which was in the midst of a botanical plague. (DS9 novel: Ascendance)

In 2386, the New York was to take Odo back to Dominion territory. (DS9 novel: The Long Mirage)

Alternate timeline[]

In an alternate timeline in the year 2367, Data traveled aboard the New York to Galor IV, where his daughter Lal was a resident at the Daystrom Institute annex. (TNG - Myriad Universes novel: The Embrace of Cold Architects)

All of the current references to the New York have been in prose written by David R. George III.
