In the Kelvin timeline, the USS Newton (NCC-1787 and NCC-1727) was a Federation starship, a Newton-type ship of the line in service to Starfleet in the mid-23rd century. Newton entered service as a successor to the previous USS Newton (NCC-1727), lost at the Battle of Vulcan. (TOS movie & novelization: Star Trek, TOS - Legacy of Spock comic: "Issue 4", ST video game: Fleet Command)
- This ship may be named for the Human scientist Isaac Newton.
History[edit | edit source]
Following the destruction of the previous Newton in the year 2258, Starfleet launched a successor ship of the same class and higher registry, which helped save the Vulcans from obliteration at the hands of the Romulans in the Battle of Ceti Alpha V. (TOS - Legacy of Spock comic: "Issue 4")
During the war between the Federation, Klingon Empire and Romulan Star Empire in the trilateral Neutral Zone, starting on stardate 2262.45, the Newton (II), now with the registry number of its predecessor, NCC-1727, served as a Federation science vessel. (ST video game: Fleet Command)
