The USS Ney (NCC-50023) was a Federation starship, a Wellington-class class XI transwarp light cruiser in Starfleet service in the 24th century.
Service history and disposition[]
Construction of this vessel was completed on reference stardate 2/9708, in the 2350s decade. This vessel was commissioned at one of the three shipyards that produced Wellington-class vessels, either Vannis Shipyards, Troyius Shipyards or Argelius Shipyards. Ney remained in service by the year 2364. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)
- Although canon Star Trek never described the "transwarp drive" experiments of the late 23rd century as being successful upgrades, many ships in FASA RPG sources were described as transwarp vessels. This can be reconciled by assuming whatever upgrades took place became integrated in the warp drive capabilities seen in canon and as such, were not commonly mentioned, and perhaps were only marginally effective to the point they didn't bear mentioning. It is also possible that the advent of the transwarp fleet could be interpreted to represent a different continuity.
This vessel was a successor in a line of Federation starships to bear the name "Ney". Two predecessor vessels were in service in the 23rd century, the Larson-class USS Ney NCC-4399 and the Saladin-class USS Ney NCC-533.
