The USS Orion (NCC-63247) was a 24th century Federation starship, a Steamrunner-class heavy frigate in Starfleet service in the 2370s decade, one of a number of ships to be named Orion.
Service history and disposition[]
The Orion crippled at Galvan VI.
In the year 2376, the Orion was testing the prototype of the Wildfire device, a protomatter warhead that could ignite gas giants into stars; in the atmosphere of the gas giant Galvan VI. During the test the Orion was attacked by the Ovanim, a non-corporeal species made of light energy, who lived in the atmosphere of the planet. The attack killed the entire crew and severely damaged the ship. (SCE eBook: Wildfire, Book 1)
During a recovery effort by the USS da Vinci, the Orion was destroyed, but the Wildfire device was salvaged. (SCE eBook: Wildfire, Book 2)
