The USS Pegasus (NCC-612) was a 23rd century Federation starship in Starfleet service. Pegasus was a winged horse from Greek Human mythology on Earth, in turn the namesake for stars such as Pegasus Major that were part of the Pegasus constellation, visible from Earth.
Service history and disposition[]
Pegasus, with registry number NCC-612, was authorized for construction as a Mk VIIa Hermes-class (Monoceros-subclass) class I scout by a Starfleet appropriation on stardate 3669 by the early to mid-2260s decade. (ST reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual)
Pegasus was in service as an Akula-class scout in the 2280s and 2290s, equipped as an advanced scout (SC+). (ST video games: Starfleet Command II: Empires at War, Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates)
- It is not clear if Pegasus was ever built to the original Federation scout specifications, as the SFTM only notes it was authorized. It is possible it was built as the originally proposed Monoceros-class vessel and then refit, or that the plans were cancelled and/or altered to make way for the ship commissioning of the Akula-class vessel, which also seems to be of a subclass called Monoceros. It is possible that this subclass of the Akula design and the original proposed Monoceros-subclass are one and the same in terms of configuration. No history or definitive fate is established for this vessel as its name was randomly selected for a scout by the SFC games' software.
