The USS Phoenix (NCC-65420) was a 24th century Federation starship, a Nebula-class explorer in Starfleet service during the 24th century. (TNG episode: "The Wounded")

History[]

The Phoenix was built at the 40 Eridani A Starfleet Construction Yards and launched on stardate 40250.5 (2363). (TNG episode: "The Wounded")

USS Phoenix, Nebula class

The Phoenix in 2367.

In 2367, the Phoenix was under the command of Captain Benjamin Maxwell, former commander of the USS Rutledge. When the Borg made an incursion into Federation space and engaged a Starfleet task force in the Battle of Wolf 359, the Phoenix was on the other side of the quadrant and deemed too far away to provide assistance. (DS9 novel: Force and Motion)

Later in 2367 and still under Maxwell's command, the Phoenix participated in an illegal border crossing and destroyed several Cardassian outposts. The USS Enterprise-D, with the cooperation of the Cardassian Union's government, intervened and persuaded the runaway starship into returning home. Phoenix's first officer, Commander Naomi Chao, assumed command after Maxwell resigned his captaincy of the ship, although she later resigned her commission after Maxwell was sentenced for his crimes. (TNG episode: "The Wounded", Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual, DS9 novel: Force and Motion)

The Phoenix was destroyed during the Borg Invasion of 2381, while attempting to defend the planet Coridan III. Ironically, the only two survivors, Ensigns Seareg and Yoralig, were both Coridanites. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny)

Phoenix in 2411

The Phoenix in 2411.

From 2410 onward, the Phoenix represented its configuration within the Nebula-class advanced research vessels in the Starfleet Shipyards Operations interface. The ship remained in active service alongside the Phoenix-class advanced escort prototype USS Phoenix (NX-95560). (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Khitomer Alliance flag officer in, or aligned with, Starfleet, deployed Phoenix for missions around the galaxy's four quadrants as part of the four-quadrant strategy. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock", admiralty system)
