USS Proxima (NCC-2001)

The USS Proxima (NCC-2001) was an Excelsior-class Federation battleship in service in the 23rd and 24th centuries.

The Proxima was the first Excelsior-class vessel following the prototype USS Excelsior to be built and was commissioned on reference stardate 2/2400 after the completion of trials. (FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)

The Proxima was lost in action in January 2335 after encountering unspecified aggressors. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual) She was later succeeded by a new ship bearing the name Proxima. (DS9 episode: "In Purgatory's Shadow")
