The USS Ranger (NX-315, upgraded to NCC-315) was a Federation starship and the lead ship of her class. She was a Ranger-class explorer in service to Starfleet in the 23rd century.
Service history and disposition[]
The Ranger was launched in 2215, and shortly thereafter the registry was changed to NCC. Three years later, in 2218, the Ranger was sent on a first contact mission to Agbar IV. The mission took a disastrous turn, and the Ranger was lost during a Klingon attack. (Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual)
The Klingons killed her crew and captured the vessel. They appropriated technology from Ranger as part of a military buildup for a strike in 2223 against Ardan IV. (Last Unicorn RPG module: TOS Core Game Book)
