The USS Reliant (NCC-1864) was a Federation starship, a Miranda-class destroyer[1] in Starfleet service from around the 2280s/2290s decades to the 2410s[3]. (SOTL calendar: 2012)
Service history and disposition[]
23rd century[]
This Reliant was launched in the 23rd century, at some point between the years 2285 and 2293 to replace the original USS Reliant, which had been lost in the Battle of the Mutara Nebula. (TOS movie, novelization & comic adaptation: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, ST reference: Ships of the Line 2012)
In the late 2280s or early 2290s decades, the Reliant encountered the USS Enterprise-A at least twice. Both ships visited Spacedock Tango Sierra along with an Excelsior-class starship, and later the Reliant and Enterprise conducted joint operations. The shuttlecraft Galileo landed in Reliant's shuttlebay 2 during those operations. (ST references: Ships of the Line 2012, Ships of the Line 2015)
24th century[]
By the 24th century, the Reliant was classified as a destroyer. (TNG video game: Birth of the Federation)
Around 2327, in one of his first assignments after graduating Starfleet Academy, Ensign Jean-Luc Picard served on the Reliant, along with Lieutenant Mamoru Nakamura. (TNG episode: "The Measure of a Man", PIC episode: "Broken Pieces")
- The scene was cut from the original broadcast of "The Measure of a Man," but restored for a remastered release of the episode.
A few years later, Lieutenant Pierzynski served a year as a security officer aboard the Reliant, before being assigned to the USS Stargazer in 2333. (STA novel: Oblivion)
The Reliant was sent with the USS Antares and the USS Grissom to help the Stargazer at Beta Barritus. (STA novel: Gauntlet)
Ensign Gretchen Naylor served aboard the Reliant between 2366 and 2368. (TNG novelization: Unification)
In 2369, Benjamin Sisko created a holoprogram that included the Reliant as part of an attempted strategy to defeat the Borg in a recreation of the Battle of Wolf 359. Sisko, theorizing new attack patterns he hoped might change the results of the battle, ordered the Reliant to concentrate weapons fire with three other starships to allow a boarding party to gain access to Locutus's cube. (DS9 comic: "Program 359")
- While the holoprogram mentioned the Reliant as present at the Battle of Wolf 359 in Sisko's recreation, it seems unlikely it could have been present during the original battle, as the vessel survived to be mentioned again in later sources.
In 2373, the Reliant fought also at the Battle of Sector 001 against the Borg. (TNG novelization: Star Trek: First Contact, ST reference: Ships of the Line 2023)
In 2374, the Reliant participated in the First Battle of Chin'toka, an engagement in the Dominion War. (DS9 episode: "Tears of the Prophets")
25th century[]
From 2410 onwards, the Reliant represented its class on the shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - Refractions missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "First City", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
By 2410, a namesake vessel USS Reliant NCC-90200 was active. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)
