The USS Republic (NCC-1373) was a Federation Constitution-class heavy cruiser in service to Starfleet in the 23rd century with a full crew of 430 persons.
One of the first 13 Constitution-class ships, by 2269, the Republic was commanded by Captain Richard Patterson.
In her five-year exploration mission, her non-classified assignments during this period where the transport of an investigating committee to Vardaine and sensor scans of the remains of the Gadani II supernova.
In 2269 Captain Patterson and Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise agreed to participate in war games in the Sigma Zhukova system - pitting their respective vessels against each other. Captain Kirk and the Enterprise were able to quickly defeat the Republic, and Captain Patterson sent his congratulations to Captain Kirk before the two ships departed for their assignments.
She was attacked by a Vardaine duplicate of the USS Enterprise.
Captain Patterson and nearly his entire crew were killed in the battle, and the Republic was left a derelict in the attack. The original Enterprise later engaged and destroyed the Vardaine duplicate. (TOS video game: 25th Anniversary)
