The USS Richard Feynman was a Federation survey vessel starship in Starfleet service in the 23rd century.

Service history[]

In the year 2254, Feynman was commanded by Captain Mark Rousseau, with Kara Choudhury as the ship's first officer. In that year, Lieutenant Leonard McCoy checked on board as the ship's chief medical officer. (TOS novel: The Better Man)

McCoy transferred to the Feynman after asking for reassignment from the USS Republic. After serving there for less than a year, however, he moved again, accepting an assignment aboard the USS Koop. (TOS novel: A Choice of Catastrophes)

In 2292, while conducting a scientific survey of "black smoker" vents in an interstellar asteroid field near a subspace rupture, a shuttlecraft from the USS Feynman crashed onto the surface of one of the floating bodies. Sending out a distress call, the ship was attacked by hostile alien lifeforms there; the starship USS Enterprise-A responded to the signal, and rescued Captain James T. Kirk's nephew Peter and other survivors from the wreckage. (TOS - Star Trek Special comic: "Bloodline")
