For other uses, see Sacajawea.

The USS Sacajawea (NCC-598), also known as the Sacagawea, was a Federation starship, a Hermes-class scout in Starfleet service in the 23rd and early 24th centuries. (TOS reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual, TOS novel: The Captain's Oath)

From 2261 to 2264, Captain James T. Kirk was the ship's commanding officer. During that time, the ship was referred to as Sacagawea.

In 2262, the vessel suffered a catastrophe. Its crew was temporarily reassigned around Vega Colony. Around that time, the vessel operated under Robert Wesley's Federation Border Patrol task force out of Starbase 24. During one assignment, the Sacagawea stopped a Xarantine freighter from ferrying Orion slave women. In another, the ship was unable to prevent Klingon Empire pirates from pillaging Shinohara's World because Kirk underestimated the Klingons' gambit.

At the turn of 2264 and 2265, Captain Kirk moved on to command the Constitution-class heavy cruiser USS Enterprise. (TOS novel: The Captain's Oath)

Mike Cleary had distinguished himself on the Sacajawea prior to joining the crew of the USS Enterprise as well. (TOS novel: Ex Machina)

During a mission in 2279, Admiral Kirk reminisced about his experiences aboard the Sacagawea, including his service alongside Doctor Leonard H. McCoy and Gary Mitchell. (TOS novel: The Higher Frontier)

  • The ship is named for the Human Sacajawea.
  • In his novel The Captain's Oath, author Christopher L. Bennett applied an alternative spelling of the name - Sacagawea - to reflect the correct pronunciation of the Human woman's name.
