The USS Saladin (NCC-74350) was a 24th century Federation starship, a Defiant-class escort in Starfleet service in the 2370s and 2380s decades.
Service history and disposition[]
In the year 2375, the Saladin was part of a Starfleet/Klingon patrol which engaged a Jem'Hadar task force under the command of Captain Shinoda. During the battle, Shinoda was killed and the first officer, Commander Julia Rivera, assumed command. The Saladin ultimately survived the battle but suffered significant damage, which was later repaired when the ship put in at the Bakrii shipyard. (ST - Tales of the Dominion War short story: "Safe Harbors")
During the Borg invasion in 2381, the Saladin was one of the vessels which amassed at the Azure Nebula to defend against the Borg. When the USS Aventine and USS Enterprise-E were over three hours to report back from subspace tunnel twenty-two alpha, Captain Chakotay of the USS Voyager prepared to order the Saladin, the USS T'Kumbra, and the USS Templar through, treating it as a combat sortie. However, tunnel twenty-six opened to allow over seven thousand Borg cubes before the ships could depart, assaulting the allied fleet. The entire fleet, with the exception of Voyager, was overwhelmed and destroyed, including presumably the Saladin. (ST - Destiny novel: Mere Mortals)

Background[]
- The Saladin's class and registry number were identified in "Safe Harbors".
- A USS Saladin was later referenced in Mere Mortals but with no class or registry identified; without evidence to the contrary, it has been assumed to be the same vessel.
