The USS Shepard was a 22nd century United Earth starship, a Daedalus-class vessel in Earth Starfleet service in the 2150s decade. (ENT - The Romulan War novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing)
Service history and disposition[]
Shepard saw action during the Earth-Romulan War in the 2150s between the Coalition of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire.
On 20 June 2156, the Shepard was one of the eleven Earth ships among the thirty-three Coalition vessels that participated in the Second Battle of Deneva. The Shepard was among the few vessels lost during the battle. (ENT - The Romulan War novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing)
In the aftermath, the Romulans eradicated the Human population of Deneva. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: A Choice of Futures)
Legacy[]
By the 23rd century, the Starfleet had commissioned another ship named USS Shepard. (TOS movie: The Voyage Home)
A hundred years after the loss of the original Shepard, Federation Shepard-class battlecruisers defended the Federation against a Klingon incursion at the Binary Stars in 2256. This began the Federation-Klingon War of 2256-2257. (DSC episode: "Battle at the Binary Stars")
