The USS Shepherd was an Federation starship, an Oberth-class science vessel in service with Starfleet around the turn of the 24th century.
Service history and disposition[]
At this time, the Shepherd was on a scientific mission to observe a supernova at Te Fiti when its engines were destroyed by an unexpected solar flare. A distress call was sent out which was answered by the USS Excelsior and all crew were beamed off to safety. (Captain's Log comic: "Sulu")
