The USS Somerville (NCC-1322) was a Federation starship, a disk-shaped vessel with cutouts in Starfleet service in the 2250s decade.
Service history
Discovering the spores.
Circa 2251-2252, Somerville dispatched an EV suited landing party in an unmapped asteroid belt when something caused the rocks to move. Unfortunately, the away team perished before they were beamed aboard, but the samples of fungi spores were turned over to researchers Paul Stamets and Justin Straal on Deneva. Somerville's captain hoped it was worth her team's sacrifice. (DSC comic: "Discovery Annual 2018")
By 2261, the vessel was succeeded in name by the USS Somerville (NCC-S471). (TOS novel: The Captain's Oath)

Background
- The ship may be named for Earth places or people called Somerville.
- On July 31, 2019, StarTrek.com announced the introduction of the USS Somerville to Star Trek Online thanks to a cooperation between IDW Publishing and Cryptic Studios. The vessel was originally drawn by comic artist Angel Hernandez for the 2018 comic appearance. STO's concept artist Hector Ortiz designed the rest of the ship, which was then handed off to Tobias Richter for modelling.
