In an alternate timeline branched off from the First Splinter[2] timeline, the USS Stargazer was a 24th century Federation starship, a Sovereign-class battleship[1] in Starfleet service in the 2380s decade. Its commanding officer was Captain Jean-Luc Picard. (TNG novel: Q & A)
Service history and disposition[]
Predecessors[]
The new Stargazer-A took its name from the Constellation-class heavy cruiser[3] USS Stargazer (NCC-2893) that gained notoriety under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the 2330s. (TNG episode: "The Battle")
On stardate 47391.2 in 2370, various Galaxy-class USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D)s and their counterparts emerged in the prime universe through a quantum fissure. Lieutenant Worf helped undo the chain of events that led to the multiversal encounter. (TNG episode: "Parallels")
Encounter at Gorsach[]
In the altered reality, Picard was captain in the year 2380, just as Jean-Luc Picard in the unaltered universe's timeline.
Q lured versions of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) to the Gorsach star system in order to have versions of Picard convince Them not to end the multiverse.
At Gorsach IX, a quantum fissure brought various Enterprises and its alternate counterparts into the First Splinter timeline. Security chief Lieutenant Zelik Leybenzon identified the incoming vessels as Sovereign-class starships or counterparts, and their number soon exceeded the total amount of Sovereigns in Starfleet.
The incomers included the IKS Qu', a former United Earth Space Probe Agency vessel now controlled by a brutal Klingon Empire. When the Qu' began attacking the native Enterprise, Captain Picard of the Stargazer warned them to cease their assault. The alternate ships then moved to disable the Qu'.
Q's gambit paid off, and the First Splinter Picard was able to convince Them to spare the multiverse. Q then returned the various ships, including the USS Stargazer, to their universes and set time back, so that these events were removed from the timestream. (TNG novel: Q & A)
