Sometime before stardate 54826.4, the USS Tonawanda and the USS Danvers were assimilated by the Borg Collective during their invasion of the Federation. The Borg sent the pair of ships for deconstruction and analysis to Borg Nexus NX-4288. Escorts, consisting of Borg and other assimilated vessels. accompanied the Tonawanda and Danvers and protected them from attacks by Species 8472. Both ships were deconstructed for study. (ST video game: Armada II mission: "The Catch")
The information gained the ship's databanks lead the Borg Queen to a Klingon base where the Empire held a captured Species 8472 vessel. (ST video game: Armada II mission: "Interception")

In the 2380s of the First Splinter[3] timeline, the Tonawanda had remained in Starfleet service in carried the NCC registry number NCC-71201. In 2383, Captain S'hirethal Verauk received command of the Tonawanda. The Acamarian woman had previosuly served as first officer of the USS Rochambeau during the Borg Invasion of 2381. In 2385, President Pro Tem "Ishan Anjar" gave Verauk direct orders to visit the planet Jevalan in the Doltiri star system to apprehend Cardassian physician Ilona Daret and anyone in his company to prevent the truth of Ishan's true identity becoming public knowledge. The attempt to carry out this order resulted in a brief exchange of fire with the USS Enterprise-E. Commander Latanun, first officer, relieved Verauk from command. Soon after, President Anjar was revealed as an imposter and removed from office. (ST - The Fall novel: Peaceable Kingdoms)

The Tonawanda's registry number is the same as that of the Nebula-class USS Prometheus. It is possible that the Prometheus was renamed sometime after the commissioning of the Prometheus-class.
