Around stardate 73XX.6, the Valdemar was rated a level 4 battle group heavy cruiser. It featured room for four officers and slots for five weapons or additional systems. Its deflector shields were rated 485, while the structural integrity field, or hull strength, topped at 640. (ST video game: Trexels mission: "Skirmish")

In 2333, the Valdemar was under the command of Captain Calabrese. The Valdemar was part of the task force organized to fight an unknown ship attacking Federation vessels. (STA novel: Enigma)
In 2370, the Valdemar was assigned to patrolling the Federation-Cardassian border. (Decipher RPG modules: Starfleet Operations Manual, Starships)
Later that year, the Valdemar, along with the USS Prokofiev and the USS Enterprise-D, were ordered by Starfleet to a rallying point near the Cardassian border after Chief Miles O'Brien was arrested on false charges. (DS9 episode: "Tribunal", Decipher RPG module: Starships).
After the incident had passed, the Valdemar prevented several Cardassian incursions into Federation territory. (Decipher RPG module: Starships)
As part of Federation Starfleet operations in the Trexelian Expanse around stardate 73XX.6, the USS Valdemar participated in the war games conducted by Starfleet and allied vessels from the 23rd and 24th centuries. (ST video game: Trexels mission: "Skirmish")
