The USS Valiant (NCC-1709) was a Federation starship, a Constitution-class heavy cruiser in service to Starfleet in the 23rd century. This vessel was among the initial batch of Constitution vessels, authorized for construction on stardate 0968.
Service history and disposition[]

This vessel was lost and succeeded in its name by a later ship, a new Constitution-class USS Valiant II. (TOS reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual)
The Valiant was a contemporary of another Constitution-class ship of the same name, the USS Valiant (TRX-1701). (ST video game: Trexels)
Shortly before stardate 1966.9 (2266), Captain Jeremy Haden received command of the Valiant. Soon after, he died alongside the rest of the crew when the alien entity of star system LC-13 caused the Valiant to crash onto a planet. (PRM novel: Fire with Fire)
