Several ships were named Valiant in Starfleet history. In the early 24th century, the Royal Sovereign-class battlecruiser USS Valiant (NCC-3010), also known as the Valiant III, was active and made first contact with the humanoid inhabitants of Haven in the Beta Cassius star system. The Valiant III remained in service into the year 2364. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)

Around the same time, the Oberth-class USS Valiant had been deployed. George Foster served as its commanding officer for at least ten years. Foster had been promoted to captain in 2334, and left the Valiant in 2360 to assume command of the USS Möwe. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Starfleet Academy Handbook)

In 2372, Starfleet launched a new USS Valiant, a Defiant-class escort. (VOY episode: "Valiant")
