The USS Valiant (NCC-1731 or NCC-1718) was a Federation starship, Constitution-class (mark II subclass) cruiser in Starfleet service in the 23rd century.
History[]
Valiant II was authorized with the registry NCC-1731 by the Starfleet appropriation of stardate 4444 to be named as a replacement for the USS Valiant (NCC-1709). The Valiant, commissioned with registry NCC-1718, entered service on reference stardate 2/0010. Valiant was refit to Constitution mark III specifications on stardate 2/0312, and again to Enterprise-subclass specifications on stardate 2/1802. By the 2280s, Valiant was outfitted to the specifications of a class XI vessel, specifically as a rear-fire heavy cruiser. (FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual; ST video game: Starfleet Command)

The stardates given would seem to suggest this ship was authorized during the mid-to-late 2260s. The FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual described this ship as NCC-1718 in actual service, despite the fact that the vessel was numbered NCC-1731 in TOS reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual.
