The USS Yelchin[3] (NCC-4774-E[4]) was a 31st century Federation starship, a vessel in Starfleet service in the 3060s decade. It was destroyed in the Burn, a galaxywide cataclysm. (DSC episode: "People of Earth")

Service history and disposition[]

Spock envisions the Burn

The Burn destroys the Yelchin.

The Yelchin had an NCC registry number with the "-E" suffix, indicating it was the sixth ship to bear the name. (DSC episode: "There Is A Tide..")

In the time before the Burn, its chief science officer, Lieutenant Commander Grace Kavanagh, worked on dilithium recrystalization. While Captain Namid Hacquin commanded the ship, her wife and son did not live aboard. In 3069, executive officer Iryi Roala was going through a breakup. (DSC novel: Wonderlands)

The Yelchin was equipped with an active, dilithium-powered warp core. When the Burn occurred across the Milky Way Galaxy, the vessel was at the coordinates 81986 mark 272139. Its black box survived the cataclysm.

Legacy[]

Yelchin's black box

Couriers trade the Yelchin-E's black box in 3188.

119 years later, the temporally displaced Starfleet officer Michael Burnham tracked down black boxes to determine the cause of the Burn. (DSC episode: "People of Earth")

Burnham learns about the Yelchin crew.

At the Cler Mercantile Exchange, Courier Cleveland Booker gave her a black box inscribed "NC*4*7*-E" in the year 3188. At the former Federation Spaceport Devaloka, ex-courier Jeremiah and acting communications chief Aditya Sahil assisted Commander Burnham in accessing its logs. The black box included the personnel files of the last crew of the USS Yelchin-E. (DSC novel: Wonderlands)

Later, Burnham acquired a black box, inscribed with the Yelchin-E's full registry number, from an alien trader while she worked as courier. It was the next useful black box Burnham had acquired. (DSC episode: "People of Earth")

Back aboard her ship USS Discovery, Burnham compiled a holographic database with info on the Yelchin. (DSC episode: "Forget Me Not")

With the assistance of Ensign Sylvia Tilly, science officer Burnham determined the moment - down to the millisecond - of the destruction of the Yelchin-E, the USS Gav'Nor, and the USS Giacconi. (DSC episode: "Unification III")

Earth 3190

Mission to Earth.

At some point around stardate 865783.7[5] in the year 3190, another ship carried the name USS Yelchin. The Yelchin-F participated in the Federation effort to evacuate Earth before its impending destruction by the Dark Matter Anomaly, which was ultimately averted by Captain Burnham and the Discovery crew. (DSC episode: "Coming Home")
