For other uses, see Ulysses.

Ulysses was a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. It was written as a first-person memoir of an elderly Ulysses. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn)

History[]

Khan was familiar with Ulysses. In 1996, aboard the Botany Bay, as the effects of suspended animation began to overcome him, he considered his hope of finding a new world. His final thought in the 20th century was a quote from the poem: “To strive, to seek to find… And not to yield.” (TOS - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 2)

In 2383, Benjamin Sisko read Ulysses when the medical equipment that had been keeping Elias Vaughn alive for two years was deactivated. Kira Nerys thought the poem elegantly captured Vaughn's life and personality. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn)

All four of the DS9 Mission Gamma novels begin with quotes from the poem. This Gray Spirit takes it title from the poem.
