In the Kelvin timeline, Unimatrix 12 was a 23rd century Borg space station, a unimatrix with associated Borg cubes based in the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant, active in Borg Collective service in the 2260s decade. (ST video game: Fleet Command)
History[]
In the year 2263, months after the Altamid Incident, a Borg sphere from the Delta Quadrant arrived in the Beta Quadrant to search for "the Outlier" - an entity the Borg had detected that held technology related to the Collective's. Unbeknownst to the Hive, the Narada had been a modified Romulan mining vessel from the 24th century of the primary universe, and been destroyed in 2258. (TOS - Boldly Go comics: "Issue 1", "Issue 2")
The Borg sphere traced the Narada to Romulus and engaged the Romulan Star Empire's fleet and the USS Endeavour in the Battle of Romulus. Starfleet and the Romulans defeated the Borg together. (TOS - Boldly Go comics: "Issue 3", "Issue 4")
Soon after, the Collective dispatched Borg cubes in to the Neutral Zone and occupied space in the Alpha Quadrant. Unimatrix 12 was established there, and several Romulan, Starfleet and Klingon Empire officers were assimilated and assigned to Unimatrix 12. The mega Borg cube was commissioned at UM12 to be deployed against the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, and their Independent mercenaries. (ST video game: Fleet Command)
