United Earth was the planetary nation-state created through the unification of the states on Earth through the signing of the Traite d'Unification in Paris in 2130. United Earth is headed by a Prime Minister (and thus presumably by a United Earth Parliament), and high-ranking officials recieve the title of "Minister." United Earth was responsible for the creation of the Coalition of Planets in 2155 and, after fighting a war with the Romulan Star Empire, was one of the five founding states of the United Federation of Planets. (Articles of the Federation; Tales of the Dominion War: "Eleven Hours Out"; ENT episodes "Demons" and "Terra Prime")

Canonical information on the dating of the establishment of United Earth is somewhat contradictory and unclear. The TNG episode "Attached" implies the last nation-state joined the government in 2150, while the movie Star Trek: First Contact suggests a united world government was established in 2113. Adding to the confusion, Articles of the Federation states that "all the governments" on Earth signed the treaty in Paris "two hundred and fifty years ago" (i.e. 2130). Presumably, the establishment of a truly united Earth was an evolutionary process.

Alternate Continuity

Starfleet: Year One is no longer put in the continuity of the novels with the advent of Star Trek: Enterprise.

Lydia Littlejohn was the President of United Earth at the end of the Earth-Romulan War, and during the foundation of the United Federation of Planets. (serial novel: "Starfleet: Year One")
