The University of California, Los Angeles, more commonly known as UCLA, is a public university located on Earth in the city of Los Angeles, California. The school was established as the Southern Branch of the University of California, and assumed its current name in 1929. The school became one of the premier educational institutions in the western United States of America, not only for educational program but for athletics as well.

UCLA was still active in the late 23rd century when it particpated in an athletic competition with other schools, including Starfleet Academy. In the 400 meter hurdles, the UCLA athlete was defeated by Starfleet Cadet Tuvok. (VOY novel Pathways)
