The University of Chicago was an institution of higher learning located in the city of Chicago on Earth.
History and specifics[]
Zefram Cochrane's parents Jesse and Hilde Cochrane were among the academics who worked at the University. In the year 2044 it was the site of a government purge of academia in the buildup to World War III, resulting in the death of both of Cochrane's parents. Following the war Zefram established the Jesse and Hilde Cochrane Fellowship in their honor. (ST reference: Federation: The First 150 Years)
In 2170, the University of Chicago published How My Father's Invention Changed Space Travel, a book by Danica Erickson. In 2311, the book was used as bibliographic reference for the Federation's 150th anniversary historical overview of Emory Erickson's accomplishments. (ST reference: Federation: The First 150 Years)
By the 2230s, Dr. Emanuel Tagore had earned several Ph.D.s during a lifetime of learning, spending some of this time at the University of Chicago. In 2239, Tagore cited the University and other places where he studied when he first met Captain Krenn, at least according to The Final Reflection, the historical novel about Tagore and Krenn's time together. Archeology Professor Robert Crater taught at the university's Extraterrestrial Institute. He was regarded by his colleagues as being reclusive. He took an extended leave of absence in 2261 to explore planet M-113.
