Sometime after stardate 78186.03[1] in April of the year 2401, 18 Defiant-class starships were part of the Frontier Day celebration held near Sol Station in Earth's orbit. They were among a total of 338 starships demonstrating fleet formation mode. The event was hijacked in a plot concocted by the Borg Queen and supported by rogue Changelings. All the ships fell under the control of the Borg Collective and began attacking the spacedock. Across the fleet, crewmembers under the age of 25 or its non-Human equivalent were assimilated and subdued older crewpersons. (PIC episode: "Võx")
The Battle of Frontier Day came to an end when Borg were defeated by the crews of the USS Titan-A and USS Enterprise-D, restoring control of the surviving ships to Starfleet. Captain William T. Riker symbolically declared this time stardate 1. (PIC episode: "The Last Generation")
