On stardate 50984.3 in January 2374, bioships of this class were among nine Species 8472 bioships that emerged from a quantum singularity rift in a star system occupied by the Borg Collective in the galaxy's Delta Quadrant. Eight Nicor-class formed a vertically oriented ring around the Dactylus, firing their weapons at the receptors of the ship in the center. The Dactylus focused the incoming energy through into a bio-pulse conduit and fired on a Borg planet, destroying it. (VOY episode: "Scorpion")

In an alternate timeline where the Federation starship USS Voyager arrived later in the system than in the primary universe, Voyager arrived in time to observe the emergence of the first bioship, followed by the nine additional bioships, and the destruction of the Borg planet. Voyager was then pursued out of the system by the first bioship while the rest engaged in battle with the surviving Borg in the system and prepared for a second planet-killer action. 8472 Counter-Command, a task force of allied Milky Way Galaxy powers, undertook Operation: Viscous Cycle to attack Undine shipyards in fluidic space. The shipyards were defended by the Undine planet killer PK Gamma as well as unnamed Nicor, Dromias-, Dactylus- and Vila bioships, as well as Undine larval ships. Admiral Tuvok's task force were forced to engage the defenders at Shipyard Alpha, Beta and Gamma to reach and destroy a trio of proto-planet killers before they could hatch and attack planets in the primary universe.
